Oloid – Math Exhibit

Oloid

In 1929, sculptor and engineer Paul Schatz developed a device to generate a tumbling motion. It was formed by taking the convex hull of  two discs of equal radius at right angles, with  the distance  between the centers of the discs equal to their radius. His creation the oloid, has he property that as it roles each point of its surface gets in contact with the plane onwhich the oloid roles.
